Giorgio Moroder - Tears (Son of My Father LP, 1972)
Giorgio Moroder turns 70 today.
This post to celebrate the genius of Mr. Moroder, winner of 3 oscars (Top Gun, Flashdance and Midnight Express), 4 Golden Globes and 3 Grammies (among the others, he scored the soundtrack for The Never Ending Story, Scarface, American Gigolo, Electric Dreams, etc, etc) and he was recently inducted in the Dance Music Hall of Fame.
In addition to working with (and producing) great talents such as David Bowie, Freddy Mercury, Barbra Streisand, Donna Summer (Do you feel love?), Sparks (Beat the Clock!), Elton John, Blondie (and the list goes on), he is considered the godfather of disco music and he heavily influenced modern music (new wave, house, techno, pop-electronic).
The song you are listening right now (or that you should be listening to!) was sampled by Dj Shadow (Organ Donor), french Vitalic (and I would say Sébastien Tellier too) consider him with Jean Michel Jarre his main influence and often pay tribute him live with this version of Chase and german electro-pop Lali Puna covered his Together in Electric Dream. In 2005 Giorgio has been finally honored with the title of Commendatore of Italian Republic and he’s now celebrating his 70s in Beverly Hills, California.
Long live to Giorgio.
