So, I’m riding my first ever century bike ride tomorrow at Palmsprings. I know it’s gonna be lots of fun, but I need to be prepared for it. I had months and months of long mileage training so physically I know it’s not gonna be too tough. Also, people tell me its a generally flat course….

Breaking Away (1979)

Watched this movie a few months ago due to a recommendation by a friend. It was on netflix but it took years for them to send the DVD. So, I watched it streaming somewhere (i forgot the website), and it had really bad streaming quality, but the story was decent. I got a kick out the character being faux-italiano and the vintage bikes are drool worthy. Can’t believe I wasnt born yet when this movie came out!

Listen with headphones on.

I don’t think I’ve heard too much music stemming from Brisbane lately but here is some. His name is Charles Murdoch and this track Evioc is bumping. The beautiful chord progression consisting of those UK style synths and that funky, funky bassline that appears two delicious times should hopefully make this track a hit. I look forward to hearing some more new tunes from this up and comer who says he might add some vocals into the mix, in the meantime check out his other Soundcloud sounds.
kirvysplash:

Shigeto - “A Child’s Mind”

Zach Saginaw consistently grounds his music in a deeply personal, familial context; his grandmother inspired two releases, his producer aliases, Shigeto and Frank Omura, both reference family names and it’s not for nothing that his latest release as Shigeto is titled Lineage.

While only Saginaw could speak to the ancestral motivation being referenced on the eight instrumental songs that comprise the mini-LP, Lineage, it’s easy to see it as an acknowledgement of debt to musical forebears, reverent respect due to the jazz, hip-hop, funk and folk that animates these eight songs. And while these elements aren’t new to Saginaw’s work, never has he demonstrated such complete command of his material. Each song is a complex constellation of sounds and ideas, but his compositional focus and restraint grounds songs that are otherwise cosmically inclined.

Cope it HERE!

Tags To Riches of the Day: Graffiti artist David Choe is no slouch when it comes to getting his hands dirty for big names: His artwork covers Jay-Z and Linkin Park’s Collision Course; he’s provided set decorations for Juno; and a portrait of Obama he painted is hanging in the White House.

But it’s his contribution to Facebook that might be Choe’s magnum opus.

The L.A. native was compensated for mural work he did at Facebook’s Palo Alto HQ in 2005 with company shares in lieu of a few thousand dollars. In light of yesterday’s IPO filing, Choe’s shares may now be worth upwards of $200 million.

Best part? He once called Facebook’s concept “ridiculous and pointless.”

Watch the artist at work below:
